The term Renaissance means "Rebirth". The movement had its origin in Italy and it gradually spread throughout Europe. The movement had significant influence over the English Literature. After the end of the War of the Roses (1453-87), Tudor Dynasty came to power in England. Henry VIII was the ruler of English from 1509-1547.. The literature of the Renaissance was written within the general movement of the Renaissance, which arose in 14th-century Italy and continued until the mid-17th century in England while being diffused into the rest of the western world. [1] It is characterized by the adoption of a humanist philosophy and the recovery of the classical Antiquity.
